Book Week 22 – 26 August 2016

As part of National Children’s Book Week, HSHS will be holding various activities over the course of the week to celebrate all things reading.

All week – Book Fair in Library

The HSHS Library will be holding a book fair all week. Students may purchase books at recess or lunch.

Monday 22 – Tuesday 23 August – Staff and students Book Exchange

We invite members of the public to donate any used or unwanted books to the HSHS Administration, clearly marked for the Book Exchange. Students will be encouraged to bring in a book to ‘swap’ for a new read. Our aim is to raise the status of reading, and encourage students and staff to share the books that they have loved. We gladly welcome any donations. Leftover books will be donated to the HSHS library.

Wednesday 24 August – Australiana Dress Up Day

Today we will be celebrating ‘Bush’ writing. Students will be studying different excerpts of Australian writing throughout the day, with lunch time being the main event of Australian Bush Poetry readings. There will also be a sausage sizzle available at lunch for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds raised going towards buying new texts for the school library.

Thursday 25 August – Scholastic Book Sale

Students will have the opportunity to purchase books at recess and lunch during the Scholastic Book Sale.

Friday 26 August – Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

All staff and students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character, and bring a plate to share for the recess time tea party. There will also be a Best Dressed Character competition, with judging taking place at recess. A gold coin donation will be required, will all proceeds raised going towards the library.
