What is a School Board and what does it do?

All Government schools in Western Australia have a School Board. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions (governance) of a school within centrally provided guidelines.  The Independent Public School board is a signatory to the Delivery and Performance Agreement with the Principal and Director General. There is also an expectation that the board participates in the external review of the school that is undertaken by the Department of Education Services in the final year of the Delivery and Performance Agreement.  An unincorporated board uses approved terms of reference to define its way of working and to meet the requirements of the legislation.

Frequency & Time of Meetings

Meetings are held six times per year, one of which is the annual Public Board meeting (i.e. 2 x Term 1, 1 x Term 2, 1 x Term 3, and 2 x Term 4, dates are listed on the Schools website.  They are normally held on a Thursday commencing at 4:00pm, and run for approximately one and half hours.  There are two (2) remaining meetings to be held in Term 4 of 2017:  Thursday 2 November, and Thursday 30 November (which is the annual Public Meeting).
