Ms Short’s year 9 woodwork class have been making CO2 dragsters out of balsa wood this term for a state and nationwide competition to be held in Perth later in the year.
The purpose of the CO2 DRAGSTER competition is to provide a means for students to demonstrate their ability using Design Make Appraise (DMA) principals to draw, design and then build a dragster within a set of specifications.
Students looked at a range of STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) topics such as wind resistance, drag coefficients, aerodynamics and power to weight ratios as elements of the dragster design process.
The fastest four dragsters from the cohort will be selected to race in the Perth competition. If successful they will proceed to the national competition.
