Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
A second round of LEAP Applications is now open for the 2018 LEAP Program. All Students interested in applying can either collect an application pack from school administration or download the forms from the school website (see below). Those students who applied in Term 4 2017 and who were accepted into the program are not required to apply again.
Ensuring excellence in learning and teaching for all students is a priority for Hedland Senior High School. It is with this focus that the school will continue the Learning Extension Academic Program (LEAP) and Academic Extension (AE) programs in 2018.
Whilst the LEAP/AE pathway will cover similar material to that covered in other MESH (Maths, English, Science and Humanities and Social Sciences) classes, students will have extension tasks within a differentiated curriculum and be given opportunities to demonstrate wider understanding and engagement with topics.
Students’ ongoing membership of a LEAP/AE class will be evaluated at the end of each semester and include criteria such as attendance, academic progress and behavioural standing. A more detailed evaluation criteria will be available when letters of offer into the program are distributed.
All students will be given the opportunity to apply for the LEAP/AE program for 2018. The selection criteria (not in order) will include:
- Completion of a LEAP/AE application package
- Compulsory aptitude testing at Hedland SHS (Saturday 21 October 2017- details to follow)
- Previous academic reports
- Student attendance
- Behaviour reports
- Teacher and parent feedback
Completed applications need to be returned to the school administration by the closing date 3pm Friday 16 February 2018. Testing for the LEAP program will be held at the school on Saturday 24 February and further details will be provided for this shortly. If no application is received by the closing date, your child will not be able to sit the entry testing on Saturday 24 February 2018.
