History

Hedland Senior High School opened in 1971 and has established a reputation for providing a supportive learning environment in which students have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge, skills and understandings to function effectively in a modern society and achieve their individual potential. The school provides a modern, safe educational institution that values cultural difference, promotes excellence in learning and empowers students to contribute positively in a world of constant change.

As the Pilbara’s first Independent Public School, Hedland senior Highs School is focussed on the achievement of academic excellence and preparing students to be active citizens of a dynamic global community. Our school delivers a comprehensive curriculum that fosters success beyond the school environment and establishes strong connections to the community through partnerships with key stakeholders. The school’s success in improving outcomes for students has been recognised through a range of local, state and national awards in areas such as Educational Leadership, the Arts, Literacy and Innovation.

The school receives outstanding support from our local community, in particular from the resources industry, with BHP Billiton Iron Ore providing significant funding for innovative programs, facilities and the appointment of staff members. This support enables the provision of a variety of educational opportunities that are the envy of many schools across Western Australia.
