Hedland Senior High School is the only school to offer a Specialist Arts Program outside of the Perth metropolitan area. It is critical that we work towards offering students the same opportunities as the Specialist Arts Programs in Perth.
In 2017 students will see some major changes to the structure and operations of the Specialist Arts Program.
Specialist Arts classes will take place after school, rather than during timetabled classes. Students will have the option of participating in the Production (Visual Arts, Photography and Media) or Performance (Drama, Dance and Music) workshops. Each workshop will run on either Monday or Tuesday afternoon and will be broken into lower and upper school groups. Students will have the opportunity to attend both afternoons if they have an interest in all Arts disciplines.
The workshops will be planned to engage and extend Specialist Arts students to ensure they are building their knowledge, talents and skills in the Arts. Students will be expected to attend every workshop and either exhibit their art works or performance at a Showcase at the end of each Semester.
Students interested in participating in the Specialist Arts Program for 2017 will be required to complete an application. All students will need to complete an application, regardless of whether they have previously been involved in the program or not. Applications are open for students in Years 6-12 in 2017.
Please be aware that engagement in the Specialist Arts Program is an extension for students and will therefore incur an additional cost of $150 per year to cover the cost of materials and resources.
Applications must be returned to the Hedland Senior High School administration by Friday the 3rd of February, 2017. Late applications will not be accepted.
