From the need to become more sustainable in energy consumption, developing ground-breaking technologies in industries like medicine and expanding our knowledge of the Universe; STEM subjects are at the forefront of the developments that will change our lives for years to come. We aim to equip our students with the skill set and knowledge to be a factor in these developments in years to come.

In 2017 Hedland Senior High School began an after school STEM Enrichment program focusing on engagement, embedding, extension and enrichment in the areas of Science, Technologies, Engineering and Mathematics.

Since its formation, the program has brought together primary and secondary students in order to solve real world problems using technologies which includes, but not limited to, activities such as:

  • Computer programming
  • Robotics
  • Civil Engineering
  • Photographics
  • 3D Printing
  • Web Design
  • Electronics
  • Frog Dissection

The program is highly competitive, with application based entry and a year 6-7 class and year 8-9 class. The program runs after school on either a Tuesday or Thursday, depending on the term. There are a select number of places available in this program every term. Students who are selected to be involved with the STEM program are expected to have outstanding behaviour throughout all aspects of school life and maintain a high level of academic achievement.
