Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to offer your child the opportunity to apply for the STEM Enrichment Program. This year, Hedland Senior High School is continuing the STEM (Science Technologies Engineering Mathematics) program focusing on Engagement, Embedding, Extension and Enrichment. The STEM Enrichment Program aims to build student knowledge and understanding of technologies through cross-curricular learning after school.
In Term 2, 3D Printing and Hacking will be the focus, with students participating:
- Designing and programming 3D objects.
- Printing 3D objects such as keyrings, figurines and USB cases.
- Discovering different ways to breach a computer system.
- Take part in investigation activities, analysing how sensitive data may have been stolen.
Other topics under consideration for the future include: Animation, Rocket Science, Biomechanics, Robotics, Web Design, Coding, Dimensional Design, and Artistic Maths.
This term, the program will run for 8 weeks and will still be open to students in years 6 to 9. This is a highly competitive program where students will be offered a placement through application only. There will be only 1 class for Term 2 and this class is capped at 22 students. The due date for student applications is Wednesday of Week 1 (2nd May). Students will be notified on the outcome of their application by Friday of Week 1, Term 2 (4th May).
Term 2 Course:
|Course Title:||3D Printing & Hacking|
|Day and Time:||Tuesdays, 3:00pm – 4:30pm (Doors open from 2:30 pm)|
|Duration:||Term 2, Weeks 2 – 9|
The STEM Enrichment program comes to a cost of $50 per term. This cost includes and covers all resources, materials and other consumables. Please do not pay for the program until acceptance has been confirmed in writing. Proof of payment is required before commencement of the program.
As this program still falls within Hedland Senior High School, it is required that all students uphold the school ethos, rules and value, which can be found at school or in the school diary. For further information, please contact me at Cameron.Pilapil@education.wa.edu.au or 9172 8000.
