Hedland Senior High School is the only school to offer a Specialist Arts Program outside of the Perth metropolitan area. It is critical that we work towards offering students the same opportunities as the Specialist Arts Programs in Perth.
In 2017 students have seen some major changes to the structure and operations of the Specialist Arts Program.
Specialist Arts classes are taking place after school as workshops, rather than during timetabled classes. Students have the option of participating in the Production (Visual Arts, Photography and Media) or Performance (Drama, Dance and Music) workshops. The Performance workshops run from 2:30-4pm on Mondays, with Production workshops running at the same time on Tuesdays. Students have the opportunity to attend both afternoons if they have an interest in all Arts disciplines.
The workshops are designed to engage and extend Specialist Arts students to ensure they are building their knowledge, talents and skills in the Arts. Students are expected to attend every workshop and either exhibit their art works or performance at a Showcase at the end of each Semester.
Students interested in participating in the Specialist Arts Program for second semester in 2017 are required to complete an application. Applications are open for students in Years 6-12.
Please be aware that engagement in the Specialist Arts Program is an extension for students and will therefore incur an additional cost of $150 per year to cover the cost of materials and resources. If students are joining for second semester, they will pay a one-off fee of $75.
Applications have now been reopened for Semester 2. Applications must be returned to the Hedland Senior High School administration by Friday 28 of July, 2017. Late applications will not be accepted.
