STEM Program

STEM Program

Hedland Senior High School is fostering a passion for STEM by building and integrating our STEAM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) engaging all students and building their skills. In our school, we leverage CoRE resources to create a strong foundation in science.

Students can delve deeper with coding extensions in science projects, while all Year 7 and 8 students develop core digital technology skills. In elective classes (STEM, Robotics, Technologies and Media) students have the opportunity to access innovative tools like laser cutters, 3D -printers, drones, and cameras.

There are exciting opportunities for students, for instance, the use of virtual reality for exploring virtual jobs and the Techtrails Conference to raise awareness of other careers in the STEAM arena. Our after-school Coding Club further fuels student interest and exploration in STEAM skills. Importantly, these integrated programs are designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills all deemed a necessary transferable skill for all future career paths.
